A Northeast Ohio couple is facing more than a dozen federal charges after allegedly robbing several banks and stores this past fall.

Thirty-year-old Casey Lane Liberty of Amherst and 32-year-old Daniel T. Begin of Cleveland were indicted on a total of 15 charges. Authorities accuse Begin of wearing a disguise to commit the armed robberies while Lane drove the getaway car. Their crimes allegedly took place in eight different counties, the most recent of which came on Oct. 22 at a Mr. Hero in Berea.

The money stolen was apparently spent on drugs, food, and hotel rooms.

“This pair went on a monthlong crime spree in which they robbed banks and stores to feed their drug habit,” U.S. Attorney Justin E. Herdman said. “It’s a miracle no one was killed, and we’re gratified this duo will likely be off the street for years to come.”

Multiple local police departments assisted federal authorities in tracking down Liberty and Begin. Their case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ranya Elzein and Robert J. Patton.
