Cleveland Metropolitan School District seeking community input in search for district's next CEO

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is asking for community input as it searches for its next CEO.

CLEVELAND — As it continues its search for its next CEO, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District is asking for the community's help.

In a letter sent to families, friends and supporters on Thursday, Board President Anne Bingham invited them to participate in community meetings, an online survey, focus groups and on-site interviews with Alma Advisory Group, the search team assisting with the search.

“The Board of Education values the community’s input, as we begin a process that will be both robust and interactive,” Bingham said. “Your participation is crucial for gathering insights and feedback."

As a part of the process, CMSD will be hosting meetings on the following dates at the following locations:

  • Tuesday, January 17 - East Professional Center
  • Wednesday, January 18 - Max Hayes High School
  • Thursday, January 19 - John F Kennedy High School

Each of the meetings will take place from 6-8 p.m. Refreshments, childcare, and interpreter services will be available, in addition to a remote option for those who pre-register.

Additionally, CMSD will be hosting an online survey in multiple languages, which will open on January 12 and remain open through January 31. The district will also host focus groups and on-site interviews at the meetings from January 17-19, where residents "will be able to engage directly with representatives of the search team and share their hopes and expectations for district leadership."

CMSD's search for a new CEO/superintendent follows current CEO Eric Gordon's September announcement that he will resign at the end of the current academic year. At the time of his resignation, Gordon said that he wanted to provide the school board and Mayor Justin M. Bibb "with sufficient time to conduct a thorough, high-quality search for the next CEO."
