Gov. Mike DeWine asks Ohio businesses to take temperature of employees daily to help screen out the sick

There are now 88 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In the continuing effort by the state of Ohio to help curb the spread of coronavirus, Governor Mike DeWine has issued a unique request to businesses.

"We are asking businesses -- beginning immediately to take the temperature of every single employee every day before they come to work," DeWine told a news conference on Wednesday. "Send employees home who are sick."

DeWine added that the state is asking Ohio's businesses to "be aggressive in regard to cleaning surfaces and having soap/hand sanitizer available."

"The temperature check is not perfect but is one way to screen out employees who may be sick," DeWine said. "Businesses should do everything they can to monitor their workforce. We're dead serious about employers taking temperatures.  We're expecting them to do this."

Much of DeWine's focus on Wednesday dealt with the importance of social distancing and separation as the best way to keep coronavirus from reproducing and spreading. Other steps taken included ordering the closures of all but five of the state's bureaus of motor vehicles. Barbershops, salons, and tattoo parlors were also ordered to close.
