2 people died of gunshot wounds inside of burning home in Akron

Akron police investigate after two bodies were found inside a Brown Street home.

AKRON, Ohio — Two people were found dead early Tuesday morning inside a home in the 1000 block of Brown Street.

Both were located as the Akron Fire Department responded to a fire near the rear of the home around 6 a.m. Akron police said the two bodies -- an adult man and an adult woman -- were discovered after the flames were extinguished.

 The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on both victims and identified them as 34-year-old Justin Lee Walker of Akron and 47-year-old Melinda Kay Pointer of Akron. Both died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso.
