AKRON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after an apartment fire on New Year's Eve killed one adult and injured another in Akron.
Firefighters responded to heavy smoke on the fourth floor of an apartment building on South Maple Street at around 7:31 p.m.
According to the Akron Fire department, an adult victim is under the Summit County Medical Examiner's jurisdiction and another was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Three additional adults were displaced from the building and Red Cross was notified.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
