Akron Police: Man fatally shot estranged wife before turning gun on self

Detectives say the suspect shot the victim multiple times during a domestic dispute before turning the gun on himself. Both people are dead.

AKRON, Ohio — Police in Akron are investigating a domestic dispute that turned deadly involving a man and his estranged wife on Friday afternoon.

According to Lt. Michael Miller, officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Morgan Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. after getting multiple calls about a shooting. 

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 49-year-old man and 53-year-old woman outside with apparent gunshot wounds. The male was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.  

After gathering information at the scene, detectives determined the suspect shot the victim multiple times during a domestic dispute before turning the gun on himself.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.  The names of the subjects involved are being withheld at this time pending positive identification and family notifications.
