Man dies in Canton shooting on New Year’s Eve, second victim arrives at hospital with gunshot to head

CANTON, Ohio — One man is dead and another injured following a New Year’s Eve shooting in Canton.

Police say it was around 7:58 p.m. Friday when officers responded to the scene in the 100 block of 17th Street NW, according to details released by police Monday.

Officers found 25-year-old Riquan Jennings inside a parked vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Jennings, of Canton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

While officers were at the scene, police say a second shooting victim walked into Aultman Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. That victim, a 20-year-old man from Massillon, told officers he was in the vehicle with Jennings when they were both shot by an unknown suspect.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the situation. Anybody with information is asked to contact the Canton Police Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144. Anonymous tips can also be sent through Tip411 or the Stark County Crime Stoppers.
