CLEVELAND — A 17-year-old girl has died two weeks after being shot on Cleveland's south side in an incident the suspect claims was accidental.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office, Destiny V. Woodall passed away Tuesday at MetroHealth Medical Center. Police say she suffered a gunshot wound to her chest on Valentine's Day morning while inside a home on the 1800 block of Buhrer Avenue.

Inside the house, officers said they found a "trail of blood" before locating a 21-year-old man in the basement. The man had been shot in the hand and told authorities he was the victim's boyfriend, claiming he had shot himself before accidently firing on Woodall.

After being treated for his injuries, the man was arrested and has been in custody ever since. His name is not yet known and investigators have yet to publicly specify what charges he is facing.

Homicide detectives are now looking into the matter, and anyone with information is asked to immediately call either Cleveland police at (216) 623-5464 or Cuyahoga County CrimeStoppers at (216) 252-7463. A cash reward of up to $5,000 may be available for tips.
