Bartender sentenced to probation after selling drinks to underage woman who fell from bar balcony

The bartender served drinks to an underage woman, who fell from a balcony and remains unconscious.

CLEVELAND -- The bartender who served an underage woman who fell from a bar balcony on St. Patrick's Day last year was sentenced Thursday morning.

Carisa Buehner was sentenced to 30 days in jail, which was suspended, one year of probation and 50 hours of community service at a rehabilitation center.

Buehner was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor for disorderly conduct after selling a trio of mixed vodka drinks to 20-year-old Megan Keefe at Spirit's nightclub on W. 6th Street last year. Surveillance video showed that Buehner sold Keefe the drinks without asking for her ID.

Keefe fell from a second floor indoor balcony inside the bar and struck her head on a railing. Her parents filed a lawsuit against the bar, claiming Keefe remains unconscious and is in need of constant care.

Buehner's attorney argued that the surveillance video didn't prove Buehner served Keefe alcohol. He also claimed that Keefe had only been at the bar for 12 minutes before she fell and there was no blood alcohol content report to prove Keefe had been drinking.
