Changes to come for RTA riders amid budget woes

No routes will be cut but at least twenty will run less frequently.

RTA has announced changes to be made to its services, this spring.

RTA says its service costs $800,000 a day to run and it’s facing a $20 million budget cut.

Tuesday, RTA announced an effort to cut $55,000 a day from their current budget.

No routes will be cut but at least twenty will run less frequently.

RTA says it won’t be replacing retiring drivers and hopes to avoid layoffs. They’ll also be limiting overtime.

The current action only adds up to $4 million out of the $20 million that needs to be cut. A 25 cent fare increase that was approved in 2016 will also take place in August.
