WalletHub study labels Cleveland one of the least happy cities in nation

We love Cleveland, but the survey ranks us almost last

CLEVELAND — In a new study by WalletHub, a personal finance website, it examines the happiest cities in America in 2021.

Sadly, out of the 182 ranked cities, Cleveland is ranked 181st!

The report claims to have looked at many relevant statistics in making the list, but we have our doubts.

“Happiness really deals with subjective wellbeing and that is a combination of life satisfaction, increase in positive emotions and hopefully less, right, negative emotions,” says Dr. Kortni Alston, a happiness scholar and Assistant professor at North Carolina A&T University.

The study measured things like emotional health, sleep, and weather. 3News ventured outside, Tuesday and our weather isn’t so bad! We also found plenty of people golfing or enjoying time at a park who absolutely love our weather!

“I love Ohio for the outdoors in general. I might be a warm outdoor guy, but I make sure I enjoy all the seasons,” says London Roche.

Our seasons give Ohioans a plethora of outdoor activities, and don’t forget our very low cost of living which wasn’t considered in the study.

The positive side to being ranked almost last, Cleveland can only go up.

“Now it’s thinking about okay what can I do to increase my levels of happiness. What can we do even as a city and as an areas in terms of increasing our levels of happiness,” says Dr. Alston.

So get outside and enjoy everything the city of Cleveland has to offer!

“There is a lot to do if you try to do it, you know if you just sit home and but we have a lot to offer here and I love it,” says local, Courtney Smith.

If you’re wondering who Clevelanders are happier than, the city isn’t too far away.

“But then, hey, you know what, you guys still beat Detroit as it relates to (the study) and you should be happy about that,” jokes Dr. Alston.

Her suggestion to be happier, take time to think about what your grateful for and you will start to see all of the great things in your life and in the City of Cleveland.
