CLEVELAND -- Protesters on Monday stood outside the Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services building to demand a federal probe into the agency.

The activists are demanding answers and justice for recent cases of child abuse, neglect and death, such as 4-year-old Aniya Day and 5-year-old Jordan Rodriguez.

Day's father joined the protest. He says he had been fighting for custody of Aniya prior to her death. Aniya's mother, 23-year-old Sierra Day, and her boyfriend, 26-year-old Deonte Lewis, are both charged in her death. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner ruled that Aniya died from cerebral infarction as a result of blunt impacts to her head, adding that she was also malnourished.

Jordan Rodriguez was the 5-year-old son to Larissa Rodriguez, who is charged in his death after his remains were found buried in her W. 80th Street back yard in December.

Prosecutors also charged Nancy Caraballo, a caseworker assigned to the Rodriguez family. Caraballo is accused of accepting food stamps from Larissa Rodriguez as payment to ignore the conditions of Rodriguez's home, which was infested with cockroaches.
