Equipment failure leaves 40,000 without power on Cleveland's West side

Crews are currently on the scene working to restore power.

Cleveland is experiencing a wide spread power outage on its West side, Tuesday.

The outage is impacting and estimated 40,000 people in the Old Brooklyn, Tremont, Battery Park and the Flats neighborhoods.

Cleveland Public Power has cited an equipment failure as the cause of the outage.

According to CPP a transformer exploded causing a minor fire.

The Cleveland Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Cleveland Public Power says it may take up to three hours to repair.
