Elyria fire causes severe damage to 2 homes on Sunday afternoon

No injuries have been reported to either residents or fire crews. Both homes were rendered uninhabitable as a result of the fire.

ELYRIA, Ohio — Elyria Fire crews responded to calls of a garage fire on the 700 block of Park Avenue at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

While on their way to the location of the fire, fire crews received an update that the fire had spread to the house on the same property.

Upon arrival to the location, crews found a heavy fire condition to the rear of the house and garage that had spread to the house directly to the north of the property.

Additional Fire Departments from Lorain, Elyria Township, Sheffield Village, Avon, Carlisle Township and North Ridgeville were called to the scene to assist in controlling the fire.

For over three hours, crews worked to control the fires and extinguish the flames.

No injuries have been reported to either residents or fire crews. Both homes were rendered uninhabitable as a result of the fire.

Damages to both homes are estimated to be a combined $450,000.

The incident remains under investigation. 3News will update this story as more information is released.
