A mother and grandmother have been arrested after Elyria police say an 11-month-old girl was found to have had illegal drugs in her system.

According to authorities, Shanice McCall called 911 around 2:10 p.m. on Feb. 1 saying her daughter had hit her head and was acting lethargic. EMS crews arrived on scene on Chestnut St., and advised Shanice to take the child to the hospital if her conditon did not improve. However, they also reported seeing Shanice's own mother Roxie acting "oddly," and later called the Elyria Police Department to request a welfare check on the child.

Police arrived at the home 10 minutes later, and reported seeing nothing wrong with the young girl, but around 2:45 Shanice decided to have her sister and sister's boyfriend drive her and her daughter to the emergency room. Once there, doctors found the young girl had not injured her head, but did in fact have cocaine and THC in her system. She later became unresponsive and was flown to Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital.

Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the home, owned by Roxie McCall. A marijuana pipe, pills, and two cell phones were collected for evidence, and it was also discovered Roxie had two more children (ages 9 and 17) living with her.

Both Roxie and Shanice McCall were arrested last Friday and charged with Endangering Children. The infant girl is currently in intensive care at Rainbow Babies & Children's and her exact condition is unknown.
