The Beachwood City Council voted on Thursday to remove its city-wide mask and social distancing mandates effective June 2. That's the same day in which Ohio Governor Mike DeWine had previously announced that all of the state's coronavirus (COVID-19)-related health orders will expire.

While its mask mandate will be lifted, the City of Beachwood said that it recommends that all unvaccinated residents and visitors continue to wear masks and practice social distancing, per CDC guidelines. Last week, DeWine officially lifted Ohio's statewide mask order in accordance with new CDC guidance that deemed it no longer necessary for people who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to wear masks or face coverings.
“Ohio will be amending our remaining health orders to comply with the new CDC guidance, which says that those who have been vaccinated no longer need to wear masks, while those who have not been vaccinated should still wear a mask and socially distance," DeWine said in a statement announcing his decisiion "The CDC still recommends everyone wear masks when they are in a healthcare setting, when they are travelling on public transportation, including airplanes, and when they are in a business or employer that chooses to require masks. Our order will be amended to reflect these recommendations, as well."
A statewide mask mandate in Ohio had been in effect since July 22, 2020.
Once its mask and social distancing orders are lifted next week, Beachwood said that its apartments, medical and office buildings, stores, restaurants and other businesses will still have the right to set their own requirements for masks and social distancing.
