Ohio State Highway Patrol officials say the crash happened on Feb. 24, at around 6:10 a.m. on Mason Road in Erie County, when a 2013 Hyundai Sonata heading westbound crossed over the yellow centerline and traveled off the side of the road.

The Hyundai then struck a fire hydrant and a fence post before overturning. The driver, who has been identified as 45-year-old John Donald of Sandusky, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

OSHP officials say that Donald was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, North Central EMS, Groton Township Fire Department, Sandusky Towing, Groff’s Funeral Home and the Erie County Water Division.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
