Summit County grant offers relief for small businesses

The program is in partnership with the city of Akron and JumpStart.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — Summit County council has passed legislation on Monday that aims to hopefully bring relief to small businesses.

The legislation called COVID -19 Small Business Emergency Relief Grant Program will be available to businesses that have been negatively affected by coronavirus. The program, in partnership with the city of Akron and Jumpstart, provides $5,000 in grants to approved businesses.

“Small businesses are the heartbeat of Summit County. While we must take the difficult but necessary precautions to fight this virus, we will also fight to make sure these businesses survive,” said Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro.

“Our hope is that the grants offered through this program will allow us to quickly get help to our local businesses and when coupled with state and federal initiatives, will provide the resources our small businesses need to make it through these difficult times.”

In order for your business to be eligible, you must be for-profit and employee between 3 to 25 people for a least 20 hours a week. At least half of those employees must live in Summit County.

Other requirements must be met before the grant is approved.
