Cleveland Indians make lineup adjustments prior to Game 3 of ALDS vs. Houston Astros

Trailing 0-2 in the best-of-five series, the Cleveland Indians will trot out a new starting lineup for Game 3 of the American League Division Series vs. the Houston Astros.

CLEVELAND -- With their season on the line, the Cleveland Indians are making some adjustments.

Going up against Houston Astros left-hander Dallas Keuchel, the Indians will field a starting lineup different from the one they fielded in Games 1 and 2. Most notably, Edwin Encarnacion will move from designated hitter to first base, with Yandy Diaz taking over DH duties. After going 0-for-6 with four strikeouts in Games 1 and 2, Yonder Alonso will begin Game 3 on the Indians bench.

In addition to Diaz, right-handed hitter Brandon Guyer will also make his ALDS debut on Monday, starting in right field in place of Melky Cabrera. Appearing in 39 games this season, Diaz hit for a .312 average to go along with 1 home run and 15 RBIs. Guyer, meanwhile, hit .206 in 194 at-bats with 7 home runs and 27 RBIs.

Trailing 0-2 in the best-of-five series, Cleveland is facing elimination at the hands of the defending World Series champions. With Mike Clevinger taking the mound, the Indians' entire starting lineup and batting order will be as follows:

  • SS - Francisco Lindor
  • LF - Michael Brantley
  • 2B - Jose Ramirez
  • 1B - Edwin Encarnacion
  • 3B - Josh Donaldson
  • DH - Yandy Diaz
  • RF - Brandon Guyer
  • C - Yan Gomes
  • CF - Jason Kipnis

First pitch from Progressive Field is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET. WKYC.com will be live on the scene with all the latest as the Indians look to keep their postseason run alive.
