Social media reacts after MLB, players reach deal to start baseball season

Despite a 99-day standoff and eventual one-week delay, all teams will end up playing 162 games.

CLEVELAND — It's been a long and agonizing wait, but we will officially have baseball in 2022.

Major League Baseball and the players' union have reached an agreement to end a 99-day lockout that torpedoed the start of spring training as well as the first week of the regular season. Teams will report to camp this weekend and games themselves will begin around April 7, with all clubs playing a full 162-game schedule. Here in Cleveland, the newly-named Guardians will start up on things April 8 in Kansas City before their April 15 home opener against the San Francisco Giants at Progressive Field.

The ugly negotiations over the past few months played out continuously in the press, leaving fans saddened and disgusted about being without their national pastime. Now that the dust has (mostly) cleared, there are still some hard feelings, but most are just happy to have baseball back.
