Cavs G Collin Sexton named to NBA Rising Stars Game

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton will replace Tyler Herro on the U.S. Team in this weekend's NBA Rising Stars Game in Chicago during All-Star Weekend.

The Young Bull is heading to the home of the Bulls.

And while there haven't been many highlights from this season, if nothing else, the Cleveland Cavaliers can now lay claim to possessing a "rising star."

On Tuesday, the NBA announced that Cavs second-year guard Collin Sexton has been named to the U.S. Team for this weekend's Rising Stars Game during the league's All-Star Weekend in Chicago. Sexton will replace Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro, who will miss the game due to an ankle injury.

Selected with the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Sexton earned second-team All-Rookie honors during his first year in Cleveland. Through the first 53 games of his second season, the Alabama product leads the Cavs with 19.7 points per game on .461 percent shooting, adding 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

The 21-year-old Sexton's scoring surge, however, hasn't translated into much success for Cleveland, which currently lays claim to the NBA's second-worst record at 13-40. On Sunday, the Cavs suffered their worst home loss in franchise history with a 133-92 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Despite being in the early stages of a multiyear rebuild, some found it concerning that neither Sexton nor rookies Darius Garland and Kevin Porter Jr. were selected to the initial rosters of the Rising Stars Game, which are consisted of first and second-year players. Cavs forward Cedi Osman played in last year's Rising Stars Game, scoring two points and dishing out four assists for the World Team.

This year's Rising Stars Game will be played at Chicago's United Center at 9 p.m. ET on Friday and air live on ESPN.
