CLEVELAND -- It isn't often that an NBA game comes to a sudden halt without some sort of violation. That, however, was precisely what happened on Friday night, when James surpassed Michael Jordan for the most consecutive double-digit scoring regular season games in NBA history.
With a first-quarter two-handed dunk to score his 10th and 11th points, James reached double-digit scoring for a now-NBA record 867th straight time. Following the basket, the matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Pelicans came to a stop, as the fans inside of Quicken Loans Arena -- including Justin Timberlake -- provided James with a standing ovation for the accomplishment.
Chants of "MVP" soon followed for James, who made sure to set the basketball from his record-breaking basket aside as a personal keepsake. To find the last time James failed to reach double-digit points in a regular-season game, you'd have to go back to Jan. 5, 2007, when he scored 8 points on 3-of-13 shooting -- and dished out 9 assists -- in a Cavs' victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.
The following night, the then-21-year-old James scored 19 points in a Cleveland win against the New Jersey Nets. That proved to be the start of what would wind up being a record-breaking streak, which has lasted the course of 12 seasons -- and counting.
