One day after leaving Ohio State's victory over Michigan with a knee injury, Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett underwent surgery, according to Tim May of The Columbus Dispatch.
Per May, Barrett underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee to remove a piece of torn meniscus, which head coach Urban Meyer said came as the result of a collision with a cameraman on the Michigan Stadium sideline. The three-time Big Ten Quarterback of the Year, however, is expected to play in the Buckeyes' Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin in Indianapolis on Saturday.
Meyer confirmed that Barrett had been cleared to face the Badgers on his weekly call-in radio show on Thursday.
"He's been cleared to play," Meyer said. "He's going to play in the game."
Ranked eighth by the College Football Playoff committee, there remains a shot Ohio State could make the four-team playoff with a win over Wisconsin on Saturday. In order to do so, the Buckeyes will likely need a strong effort from their senior signal-caller, who has been responsible for 3,400 yards of total offense (2,728 passing, 672 rushing) and 42 touchdowns (33 passing, 9 rushing), while throwing just 7 interceptions this season.
Should Barrett's injury hinder his production, Meyer would rely on redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins, who completed 6 of 7 pass attempts for 94 yards and rushed for 24 yards while helping lead Ohio State to a comeback win against the Wolverines.
