CLEVELAND — Ohioans are adjusting to the extension of the statewide curfew aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19.

The 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. restricted hours, which were supposed to expire this week, were extended until Jan. 2, 2021. The curfew now moves into the season of holiday celebrations like Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and the new year; leaving many families scrambling to adjust.

“It’s been really hard,” 3News anchor Maureen Kyle said during the On the GO! live broadcast Friday morning.

Kyle has been trying to keep her three small daughters busy and engaged this holiday season through craft making, watching Christmas movies and baking cookies together. She admits to missing her family’s traditional celebrations but advised against going for the gold when adjusting plans.

“I think we’re putting too much pressure on our ourselves,” Kyle added. “My PSA here is, and I need to follow my own advice, you need to give yourself a little bit more slack on trying to make this season something it can’t (be) for safety reasons.”

Danielle Wiggins, morning show multi-platform anchor, agreed. She shared how high expectations ruined how she viewed her Thanksgiving.

“I worked all week …. I cooked all day and when I got home on Thursday the turkey was burnt and I just felt so deflated,” Wiggins said. “Now I’m realizing, like, stop having these high expectations."

Meteorologist and host Hollie Strano said decorating has helped to keep her spirits up during the curfew.

“I’ve turned my home into a Hallmark movie home,” Hollie said. “There’s not one inch that isn’t something and it’s just cozy and joyful. It makes me happy and it makes the kids happy.”
