Man fatally shot while playing basketball at Cleveland's Regent Park

A man was fatally shot while playing basketball at Cleveland's Regent Park on Monday.

CLEVELAND — A 24-year-old man was fatally shot while playing basketball at Regent Park in Cleveland's North Broadway neighborhood on Monday morning.

According to Cleveland Police, officers responded to 3270 Regent Road at 5 p.m. on Monday for a male with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers located the male victim on the basketball court inside of the park with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

EMS transported the man to Metro, where he was pronounced deceased. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 24-year-old Lawrence Levert Jr. of Cleveland.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the victim was playing basketball with friends when a vehicle approached, with multiple occupants firing shots from the vehicle, striking the victim, before fleeing the scene. The incident remains under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
