Mother accused of fatally shooting 6-year-old son at Brooklyn hotel appears in court

Daneicha Bringht, 30, is facing first degree murder charges.

BROOKLYN, Ohio — A 30-year-old woman accused of fatally shooting her 6-year-old son appeared in Parma Municipal Court on Monday. 

Daneicha Bringht is facing first degree murder charges after she and her son were injured in a shooting at the Fairfield Inn and Suites, located in the 5100 block of Tiedeman Road, on Saturday, April 24. 

The shooting took place in the early morning hours and police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. for reports of shorts being fired. 

According to reports, Bringht was staying with her son at the hotel and told police someone came into their room and shot them both around 6:30 a.m. Officials also report that Bringht left her son in her room and called 911 from the front desk roughly 30 minutes after the shooting.

The boy victim has been identified as Kaamir Bringht. Suffering gunshot wounds to the head and stomach, Kaamir was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The investigation remains ongoing. 

Bringht was arrested at the scene and a $500,000 bail was issued. While in court on Monday, a plea was not issued as Bringht did not have legal counsel present. However, Bringht was ruled competent to stand trial.
