It's the best day of the year: Treat Yo Self 2016!
NBC show Parks & Recreation invented the holiday that's all about giving into your consumerist urges and buying luxurious goods. On the show, Donna (Retta) and Tom (Aziz Ansari) spend every October 13th treating themselves to things they probably wouldn't buy on an ordinary day. Things worth buying on Treat Yo Self day, according to Donna: "clothes, fragrances, massages, mimosas (and) fine leather goods."
But everyone's Treat Yo Self day is different. For Tom, it means buying expensive cashmere socks. For Donna, it means purchasing an impractical crystal beetle pin. And for Ben (Adam Scott, who joined Donna and Tom for Treat Yo Self 2011), it means walking out of the store in an adult Batman costume.
So go on, find that special, but unnecessary thing that makes you happy, and Treat Yo Self!
