AKRON, Ohio — WKYC Studios meteorologist Jason Frazer is one of the new faces of the 3News team. He is visiting all Northeast Ohio has to offer on our new show What's New. His second city tour is the Rubber City.
First Stop: Akron Peanut Shoppe
At the Akron Peanut Shoppe, you can almost year the echos of folks from all the way back in the 1930's gathering to pick out their favorite nuts and enjoying each other's company. The store is one of the oldest in Akron, featuring dozens of nut varieties. Jason induldged in some chocolate covered cashews and pecans.
Second Stop: Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath
It's the starting point to miles and miles of walk-able and bike-able trail throughout Northeast Ohio. The towpath entrance in Akron leads to 85 miles to be exact. The entrance is also just steps away from the Akron Art Museum, Canal Park Baseball Stadium and the Richard Howe House Trailhead.
Third stop: Northside Marketplace
The Northside Marketplace is a 10,000-square-foot small business incubator for local startups. You can buy anything from handmade candles to Akron-pride T-shirts, while enjoying food and a cold one under the same roof. Jason was especially privy to the candles.
Fourth stop: Lock 15 Brewing
Lock 15 screams Akron. From the local men who started the brewery to the cows that make the burgers; it's all Akron-based. The names of their beers even reflect an Akron person, place, or thing. Jason dined on the Nashville hot chicken and the shrimp and grits. Bon appetite!
Fourth stop: Akron Art Museum
The Akron Art Museum has so much to explore. There are several exhibits that will take you away from the world and into your creative mind for a while. Jason spoke with museum staff about the brand-new permanent installation, "All Fall". Created by Ohio artist Jenny Holzer, it features LED signs that broadcast classic texts written by the artist in the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. He also discussed the museum's next exhibit, Objects to be Destroyed. It debuts February 29th and stays through August.
