'I've been given such a great opportunity to work in television because it connects me to people,' Danita says. 'Here at 3News, they're already doing that.'

CLEVELAND — WKYC Studios is excited to announce that longtime Cleveland news anchor Danita Harris is joining 3News’ “GO!” morning team starting Monday, April 8. A powerful presence in Northeast Ohio for almost 25 years, Danita will co-anchor "GO!" alongside Dave Chudowsky and Senior Meteorologist Matt Wintz every weekday from 5-7 a.m. She will also deliver exclusive interviews and create special content throughout all 3News broadcasts.

Danita comes to 3News after a brief retirement from WEWS and a storied and successful career at the ABC affiliate.

“I've been given such a great opportunity to work in television because it connects me to people. Here at 3News, they're already doing that," Harris says. "They have great journalism and a deep commitment to community, to making a difference in people's lives. It aligns with who I am as a person. It is my passion, it is my profession, and it is my purpose. And I can't think of a better place to do it than right here at WKYC."

A native of Chester, Pennsylvania, and graduate of the University of Maryland, Danita has worked at WJLA in Washington D.C. and Black Entertainment Television. Among her many professional accolades are numerous Emmy Awards, a prestigious Edward R. Murrow award and being inducted into the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame. She is a recipient of many other notable honors including the Chuck Heaton Award from The Press Club of Cleveland and being included in the “HistoryMakers Collection” at the Library of Congress.

WKYC President and General Manager Micki Byrnes said, “Danita’s integrity and her deep commitment to the communities of Northeast Ohio make her an incredibly knowledgeable and impactful journalist. We are thrilled she’s joining our team.”

News Director Jon Adkins added, “Danita is a true journalist who’s going to tell amazing stories, and start your day with everything they need to know, from breaking overnight news to what’s happening that morning that could impact your day. And she’ll do so in the most engaging and helpful way possible. You’re going to know exactly what to expect as you head out the door, and you’ll have a smile on your face.”

In addition to her calling as a journalist, Danita is devoted to encouraging and empowering women, men and children through her ministry as an ordained reverend. Danita’s spiritual faith is the foundation of her initiative, “It’s Your Time to S.H.I.N.E.,” a successful non-profit that was founded in 2016 to help others ‘find their divine light within.’

In her spare time, she loves listening to jazz and gospel music. One of Danita’s greatest blessings is her son Chase. He is an answered prayer and a testament of God’s faithfulness to her.
