Woman with cerebral palsy donates hair to help kids battling cancer

Kristina Sliman donates her hair for the 10th time.

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio — Kristina Sliman has limits.

Born with cerebral palsy, the 28-year-old has a tough time getting around, even talking.

But nothing holds her back.

At 10, she read about a girl battling cancer. Learning others had it harder, she gave up her hair.

“I know that I helped somebody else in need,” Sliman said.

Ever since, she continues to grow it for no other reason than to donate to Wigs for Kids.

This Valentine’s Day marked her 10th time giving.

“It’s a love story, it’s a love story. And she gives it with such heart,” said Jeffrey Paul, founder of Wigs for Kids.

He points out the wigs are not about the cosmetic, either.

“It’s about the self-esteem, it’s about no more bullying,” he said.

The wigs, which otherwise cost $4,000 or more, are custom-made for children and given to them for free.

Sliman says she will never stop donating her hair.

“It’s just the decision that keeps me going,” she said. “You will change somebody’s life forever.”

Over the years, the non-profit has given away thousands of wigs. You can read more about them at www.wigsforkids.org.

Only adding to her sacrifice, Sliman says she prefers her hair short.
