Doylestown church to lead tornado rebuilding efforts in Kentucky: How you can volunteer to help

The group is headed to the state in September to help rebuild what was destroyed in the tornado.

DOYLESTOWN, Ohio — After a tornado ravaged parts of Kentucky last December, lasting 200 miles on the ground, a group in Wayne County is stepping up to help.

Members of the Doylestown Methodist Church will head to the towns of Mayfield and Dawson Springs at the end of September to help the community rebuild, according to a press release.

The group will leave on Sept. 25 and return on Oct. 1. Many on the relief team have "disaster recovery experience as the team has responded to disasters for 18 years. At least three on the team have more than 50 weeks of experience in construction recovery work."

But they need more volunteers.

No skills are required to join the effort, but experienced carpenters and those with associate trade skills would be appreciated, too.

A volunteer meeting will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Doylestown United Methodist Church, which is located at 153 Church Street in Doylestown at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The cost for those interested in joining the relief team is $200. The amount covers room, board and fuel costs.

Anyone interested in joining the relief effort should contact team leader Earl Kerr at 330-347-4177 or ekerr@ohio.net.
