New study shows the economic impact of the Ford Motor Company on Ohio, highlights contributions to fight against COVID-19

"Ford is responsible for more than 78,000 direct and indirect jobs in Ohio and a state GDP contribution of $7.5 billion."

CLEVELAND — The Ford Motor Company continues to provide major economic impact to Northeast Ohio.

In a newly released study by Boston Consulting Group, the management firm spotlighted Ford's longstanding commitment to manufacturing in the Cleveland area.

According to the study, Ford is responsible for more than 78,000 direct and indirect jobs in Ohio and a state GDP contribution of $7.5 billion.

“If anyone is wondering where the beating heart of the American economy is, it’s right here in Ohio,” said Mike Felix, Director of Manufacturing, Ford North America Engine Division. “This new study shows that F-150 is the workhorse of the American economy, and with nearly 75 percent of F-150 engines made in Ohio, our plants here are vital to the local community and to the national economy. As a former plant manager myself in Ohio, I couldn’t be more proud of our employees, UAW partners, dealers and suppliers.”

Ford is also contributing to the health of Ohio by fighting COVID-19.

"Ford and its UAW partners quickly ramped up production of personal protective equipment to protect health care workers, first responders and patients fighting COVID-19. Since March, Ford has produced nearly 60 million face masks, over 20 million face shields, 50,000 patient ventilators, 32,000 respirators and 1.6 million washable isolation gowns."

This week, they have donated 250,000 masks to the city of Cleveland and another 250,000 masks to local governments in our state.

“This donation from the Ford Motor Co. will go a long way in helping Clevelanders stay safe during this pandemic,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “We thank them for their support and I want to remind all to stay home, if you have to go out, keep social distance and wash your hands often.”
