Driver killed in Akron crash, 4-year-old boy survives: What police are saying

Police found the boy outside of the car that overturned and landed on its roof.

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police were called to Crosby Street on Tuesday for a vehicle that had crashed and flipped onto its roof around 2:35 p.m.

When police arrived, they found the driver of a Kia Sedona was westbound on Crosby Street when it ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree. Police say the driver, identified as a 48-year-old man, was partially thrown from the car. He was pronounced dead at the crash site. His name has not yet been released.

Police also found a 4-year-old boy outside of the vehicle. The child was taken to Akron Children's Hospital to be checked out.

"Preliminary indications suggest that the driver may have experienced an unknown medical emergency moments before the crash," Akron police said in a press release..

The incident remains under investigation.
