Weekend violence: Police investigate shootings in Short North, Linden, south Columbus

The shootings in the Short North happened within hours of two separate fatal shootings in Columbus, both of which police said were domestic.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police is investigating three separate shootings that happened throughout the city early Saturday, including one that prompted a large police response in the Short North.

Officers responded to the 600 block of North High Street around 2:30 a.m. on a reported shooting. While officers were on the scene, Police Chief Elaine Bryant said shots were fired from another location and multiple officers returned fire.

Police said a total of 10 people were shot in the Short North and all are expected to survive. All of the shooting victims are between 18 and 27 years old.

Police released body camera video from two officers during a press conference held by the city on Monday. The video shows the officers running toward the sounds of the gunfire and shortly after, firing shots at the suspects.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation said that two people were injured as a result of the shooting that involved officers and both remain hospitalized in serious condition. No officers were injured.

The Columbus Police Homicide Unit is investigating the other two shootings that happened on the north and south sides of the city, respectively.

In south Columbus, police say 36-year-old David Davis was shot in the stomach on East Whittier Street. He was taken to Grant Medical Center where he later died.

Police arrested 34-year-old Isaac Clark on Sunday who is believed to have shot Davis following a verbal altercation. He is charged with murder.

In the South Linden area, a woman is dead and three other people were hurt after a shooting on St. Clair Avenue. The suspect in the shooting, 29-year-old Keith Pleasant, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Columbus police released a statement to Facebook Saturday evening saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by last night's senseless acts of violence. We are asking anyone that may have information that could lead to the arrests of these suspect(s) to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS."
