SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Amy Corrigall Jones has sentenced 34-year-old Joseph Pinckney, of Akron, to life in prison without the possibility for parole for the death of 31-year-old Terrance Vandiver Jr.

A Summit County jury found Pinckney guilty of these charges last month:

  • Aggravated Murder with a Gun Specification – a special felony

  • Two Counts of Felonious Assault with a Gun Specification – felonies of the second degree

The incident that led to today's sentencing occurred on Dec. 19, 2020. Vandiver and 35-year-old Dwayne Jackson were at a house on Wall Street in Akron when Pinckney violently entered the back door and opened fire.

Vandiver was shot six times and died as a result of his injuries. Jackson suffered a non-life threatening injury to his shoulder and survived.

Pinckney's two accomplices, Danayet Hayes and Aniyah Jenkins, are currently set to go on trial. A date has yet to be set.
