GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — An Alabama man was taken into custody by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force Wednesday afternoon.

50-year-old Fredrick Hampton was wanted by Birmingham officials for sex offender violations and abuse of a corpse.

Hampton was arrested at a relative's home in the 13600 block of Eastwood Avenue in Garfield Heights. Officials forced entry into the home, but Hampton was arrested without incident.

“Quick action by law enforcement in Alabama and Ohio led to the capture of this fugitive who was very clearly on the run from authorities.  A person with little regard for life is off the streets and both communities are safer this evening,” said Pete Elliot with the U.S Marshals.

Hamptons' charges stem from the actions taken following the death a 29-year-old Paighton Houston. Houston's body was found wrapped in sheets in a shallow grave behind a relative of Hampton's home on Friday, January 3.

Hampton will remain in the custody of Garfield Heights Police until he can be extradited back to Alabama. He is also being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service for possible federal violations.
