Federal grand jury indicts alleged Sandusky member of 'Boogaloo Bois' accused of threatening government officials

Aron McKillips was arrested back in November and now faces formal charges of both making threats as well as illegally having a machine gun.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Sandusky man who is reportedly a member of a far-right extremist group has been indicted on multiple charges related to alleged threats he made against members of the government.

A federal grand jury on Thursday returned a six-count indictment against Aron McKillips, with the most notable being five counts of interstate communication of threats. In addition, the 29-year-old is also charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun after prosecutors say he used a device to convert an AR-15 into such an automatic weapon.

McKillips was first arrested back in November, and according to The Daily Beast the Ohio resident is a "well-known member" of a group known as the "Boogaloo Bois" that seeks to overthrow the United States government and initiate a second Civil War. The publication stated the FBI had been investigating McKillips for reports of his desire to carry out an attack similar to the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting as well as purported threats against the IRS and Facebook.

Thursday's indictment detailed specific messages McKillips apparently said or wrote between September of 2021 and July of 2022. In the messages, McKillips talks about shooting and killing police officers, executing a "raid" on a "government building," and aiming his gun and law enforcement vehicles.

"Soon enough we'll have no option other than violence," McKillips wrote, according to prosecutors.

A court date for McKillips has not been specified. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael J. Freeman and Gene Crawford from the Northern District of Ohio are currently slated to prosecute the case.
