Man killed by suspected drunk driver going the wrong way on I-76 in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — A 27-year-old man is dead after his car was struck by a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 76 in Akron Wednesday night.

According to police, a Chevrolet Silverado being driven by a 63-year-old man got on I-76 west going the wrong way before slamming into a Ford Focus at the top of the Central Interchange around 8:12 p.m. The driver of the Ford, identified as Clintin Churby, was killed instantly.

While officials say they believe alcohol was involved, they have not yet charged the suspect or released his name. He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital and treated for his own injuries.

A third vehicle was also hit by debris. However, the car's driver was uninjured.

This incident remains under investigation.
