East Cleveland Police: 44-year-old man dead after shooting

The shooting remains under investigation by East Cleveland police.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man is dead following a shooting in East Cleveland, according to police.

At approximately 1:19 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, East Cleveland police received a call about a man who had been shot. When officers responded to the 15200 block of Elderwood Avenue, they found a man laying in the middle of the street with "numerous gunshot wounds."

Officers immediately began administering aid to the man while they waited for medical emergency crews to arrive. 

The man, later identified as 44-year-old Damien Daunte Cook, was transported to University Hospitals where he was pronounced dead.

The East Cleveland Police Department says an investigation is ongoing and that detectives have a person of interest in the shooting. 

Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the East Cleveland Detective Bureau at 216-681-2162 or Crime Stoppers at 216-252-7563.

A cash reward of up to $5,000 may be available if an arrest and/or conviction is made based on your information.
