Garfield Heights man shot dead on Cleveland's east side; police searching for suspects

CLEVELAND — A 22-year-old man is dead following a shooting on Cleveland's east side early Saturday morning.

Witnesses told police Melvin Melek Barnes, of Garfield Heights, got into an argument with a group of men on the 216300 block of Eldamere Avenue when gunshots rang out around 4 a.m. Barnes was stuck multiple times, while the suspects fled in an unknown vehicle.

Barnes died from his injuries at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. While authorities have indicated they may have some leads, no arrests have been made at this time.
