A home health aide from Grafton has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for stealing $200,000 from a disabled patient, U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan announced Wednesday.

Jamie Kidd-Dunbar, 40, was sentenced by U.S. Judge Donald C. Nugent to 61 months in jail and has been ordered to pay back more than $217,000 in restitution for crimes committed in 2018.

Kidd-Dunbar stole from a 60-year-old woman who had suffered a series of strokes that left her blind, and also stole from the woman's 90-year-old aunt.

Being a trusted aide, Kidd-Dunbar used the blind woman's credit cards to make unauthorized purchases and cash withdrawals over time.

Kidd-Dunbar was also authorized to help the first victim's aunt and was given access to her credit cards, as well. She also used victim one's credit cards to pay off the balances racked up on the second victim's accounts.

In total, the home health aide spent $217,096.52 on the first victim's credit card.

“Our aging and disabled family members and friends must be able to trust those who are hired to assist them, said Brennan. “The fact that Ms. Kidd-Dunbar exploited that trust for her own personal gain, and ignored the needs of two women, one of whom was both blind and physically disabled and the other 90 years old, highlights the egregiousness of her conduct and underscores the need for a significant term of incarceration.”
