A 24-year-old Akron man is in custody after he allegedly shot and killed someone during an argument last month about a mile south of downtown.

U.S. Marshals confirm Eugene Wells was arrested Monday evening outside a Walmart in South Charleston, West Virginia. He apparently had a small amount of drugs on him when he was captured.

Wells is charged with aggravated murder in the June 3 death of 23-year-old Walter Matthews Jr. The two apparently got into a verbal altercation near Princeton St. and West South St. when Wells pulled out a gun and shot Matthews multiple times. Matthews later died at Akron General Hospital.

If convicted, Wells could potentially face the death penalty. An initial court date has not yet been set.
