Police arrest massage therapist accused of raping woman at Westlake spa

Police in Westlake are asking any additional victims of Kyle Carthens to come forward.

WESTLAKE, Ohio — A 32-year-old Cleveland Heights masseuse is facing a charge of rape for the alleged sexual assault of a woman during an appointment at a Westlake spa.

Police in Westlake are now asking any additional victims to come forward.

According to a release from the Westlake Police Department, the victim appeared at the station to report the alleged sexual assault on Saturday afternoon. She told police that earlier that day, she had gone to Spa West for a massage. During her appointment, the victim says that her massage therapist, Kyle Carthens, touched her inappropriately several times.

After giving her report to police, the victim was taken to Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital for a sexual assault examination.

Investigators collected evidence and found that Carthens had only been at Spa West for two weeks at the time of the alleged sexual assault. He had also been advertising in-home massage services on the app called "Soothe." Detectives discovered that Carthens also had warrants for traffic offenses in Beachwood and Cleveland Heights.

Carthens was arrested on Tuesday after taking an Uber into work and charged with felony rape.

On Wednesday, Carthens waived a preliminary hearing in Rocky River Municipal Court and was bound over to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury. He was unable to post a $100,000 bond and was transported to the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Carthens has also been fired from his job at Spa West.

Westlake police detectives are seeking to talk to any additional people who may have been victimized by Carthens. If you have any additional information on this case, call the WPD detective bureau at 440-871-3311.
