MADISON, Ohio — The two suspects wanted for the armed robberies of a Speedway gas station in Stow and a Burger King restaurant in Jackson Township are now in custody.

Shaun Phipps and Ashleigh Mayfield were arrested by Madison Township police officers just after midnight on Tuesday in Lake County. The duo were spotted in a vehicle outside the Walmart in Madison on North Ridge Road by a witness, who reported possible drug activity occurring to police. Officers tried to make contact with the pair, but the driver (Phipps) ignored police and started the vehicle. He sped away from the scene, nearly striking a Madison Township police cruiser and running through a red light. The suspects continued into Perry Township, driving without headlights, until spikes were deployed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which deflated their tires.

Phipps now faces additional misdemeanor charges of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Devices, Operating a Vehicle Without Headlights and a felony charge of Failure to Comply with Order or Signal of a Police Officer. He will be turned over to the Stow Police Department in the future.

Mayfield has already been arraigned in Stow Municipal Court for charges of aggravated robbery and grand theft of a motor vehicle.

According to Stow Police, Phipps and Mayfield entered the Speedway Gas station on Graham Road and robbed them at gunpoint just before 8 a.m. on February 23. They got away with cigarettes, cash and a set of keys from the back of the store that belonged to an employee. The suspects used the keys to take the employee's car, a silver 2016 Honda CRV.

Police say that the stolen vehicle has now been recovered in Akron.
