ELYRIA, Ohio — A 29-year-old man is in custody after an alleged weekend disturbance in Elyria within the 700 block of Broad Street.

But it’s what Jeffrey Enlow allegedly told police during his arrest Sunday that is making headlines.

According to a police report, Enlow told officers he thought he had COVID-19 because he developed symptoms.

Enlow was taken to UH Elyria Medical Center where he was given a COVID-19 test.

The results were negative.

Police say Enlow later stated he only said he might have coronavirus because he did not want to be taken to jail.

After he was medically cleared, Enlow was taken to the Lorain County Jail.

Earlier that day, Enlow had been arrested for an incident at that same location, but was not accepted into the jail because he had a "very minor fever" of 99 degrees at the time and was released from custody.
