One man is in custody facing multiple charges after robbing the Avon Walmart and leading police on a high-speed chase that finally ended in Sheffield.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon.
At 3:00 p.m., an Avon police officer was responding to an accident when told that a man had just stolen a television from Walmart.
The suspect, Travone Lee Edwards, failed to follow instructions from the officer and fled the scene at a high rate of speed in a red passenger car with no visible registration.
The pursuit on Detroit Road went from Avon into Sheffield Village as Edwards continued to ignore directions from police to pull over. Officers broke off the search when they lost sight of his car. It was later found unoccupied in Sheffield Village.
Edwards was later located and taken into custody. He was charged with failing to comply with the order and signal of a police officer, theft, possessing criminal tools, red light, marked lanes, and driving on a closed road.
No officers or civilians were injured during the pursuit.
