Weekend shooting in Cleveland rattles downtown residents

Cleveland police confirmed that a 22-year-old male was shot in the stomach near a business in Public Square Saturday night.

CLEVELAND — A shooting outside of a downtown convenience store on Saturday night has Cleveland residents concerned about safety in one of downtown's most heavily populated areas.

Not much is known about the shooting as of Sunday evening. 3News did get confirmation from Cleveland police that a 22-year-old male was shot in the stomach. He was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center to undergo treatment, but his current condition is unknown.

3News' Lydia Esparra spoke to several different residents of downtown Cleveland who have been shaken by an increase in violence after dark.

One said she will think twice from now-on about venturing into Public Square. Another lamented the violence saying "things like that (shootings) happen and they could've been prevented."

Even tourists making their way through the city on a short visit are feeling the effects of the increased violence. A woman and her mom who loved visiting the city but ask, "Can you ever get used to shootings?"

Cleveland police say they are looking for a man in a red hoodie and black mask. They are currently working to investigate security cameras in the area to gather more information on the shooting. As of now, no suspects have been named and no arrests have been made.
