Woman abducted in carjacking at Ravenna drive-in: One suspect turns self in

The woman was later found nearly three hours later.

RAVENNA, Ohio — A 72-year-old woman was abducted during a carjacking Monday night at the Midway Drive-In on Route 59 in Ravenna.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 8:40 p.m. when the suspect approached a 73-year-old man who was unloading a golf cart from his trailer at the drive-in.

The suspect asked the man for a ride to Kent. When the man refused, the suspect and a woman jumped into his vehicle and fled the scene with the victim’s wife in the back seat.

The abducted woman was later found alongside Powdermill Road by a concerned citizen around 11:30 p.m. in Franklin Township. The woman reported she was pushed from the vehicle. Her purse, money and cell phone were stolen by the suspects.

She was taken to the hospital as a precaution and later released.

Authorities are still searching for the suspects and the stolen vehicle, which is a silver 2014 Ford Flex with Ohio plate 857YUS.

Warrants were issued for the suspects who have been identified as 32-year-old Christopher Michael Hastings and 28-year-old Margaret Ann Hayes. They're facing charges of abduction and auto theft.

Hayes turned herself in Tuesday night. Hastings remains on the loose.

Authorities say Hastings and Hayes had both just been released from the Portage County Jail approximately 40 minutes before the carjacking incident took place.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Portage County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 330-296-5100.
