SHAKER HEIGHTS -- No injuries have been reported after a fire broke out at Fernway Elementary School in Shaker Heights on Tuesday.
The loss of the building is a major blow to the community, however.
Fire crews from more than a dozen departments could do little more than pour water on the rooftop of the building since the heat was was too intense to go inside.
They used hydrants near and far, up to a quarter mile away, to get the fire under control. But not before the roof had collapsed.
WKYC streamed live from the scene below:
A district spokesperson says there were no students at the school and no classes in session. A small number of staff members were evacuated.
Fire officials say they haven't determined the cause as of yet.
