U.S. News & World Report releases lists of top high schools in Ohio: See which Northeast Ohio schools are in the top 50

On a national level, Solon is ranked as the 220th-best high school in America.

CLEVELAND — U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of the Best High Schools in America on Tuesday. Although none of Northeast Ohio's institutions cracked the national top 200, several are among the top 50 in the state.

Many Northeast Ohio high schools, including Solon, Rocky River, Chagrin Falls and Hudson, were ranked among the Top 10 across the state. On a national level, Solon ranked 220th and Rocky River at 232nd.

"The Solon Schools are dedicated to meeting the diverse academic, extracurricular, and social-emotional needs of every student. “While external ratings provide valuable insights into our academic rigor, they tell only part of the story,” said Solon Schools Superintendent Fred Bolden, adding that these external endorsements also reflect the quality and continuity of the district's programming from preschool to high school. “Our overall educational program places equal emphasis on academics, arts, activities, and athletics – the pillars that support the whole child.”

U.S. News & World Report bases its rankings on schools' performance on state-required tests, graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college.

"A great high school educates all of its students from different social and economic backgrounds, exposing them to challenging coursework on the path to graduation. The highest-ranked U.S. public schools in U.S. News & World Report's 2024 Best High Schools rankings are those whose students demonstrated outstanding outcomes above expectations in math, reading, and science state assessments, earned qualifying scores on an array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions," said the publication.
